(Bits and pieces about St. James’ kids:)

The Youth Leader was Jimmy Waters, followed by Hal Taylor. They kept the young people busy with cookouts, hayrides, lock-ins, repairs to the game-room, cleaning and campout at the lake, trip to Whitewater Park, and a Rock-a-thon.
James and Paula Gay were youth coordinators.

Terry Mathis was selected to play his clarinet at the University of South Carolina Solo/Ensemble Festival, making a Superior rating and an “Excellent” in duet. Nine youths completed Pastor Seawright’s confirmation classes and joined the church. Beth Whitehead was chosen as one of 600 seniors from the State of Georgia to participate in the Governor’s Honors program for six weeks at Valdosta State College. Daniel Brown, at Westside High, won first place in four math competitions and two in science.

The Children's Department had excellent leadership under Phyllis Crim.
They engaged in memory Bible Study, held a Valentine dinner with king and queen, raising $500, and had a Mothers Day Brunch. The Vacation Bible School dealt with loving Jesus. Seventy-eight boys and girls attended and there were fifteen excellent workers, plus UMW circles providing refreshments. One hundred and twenty children and parents were at the closing session.
